FIRST THOUGHT FILMS ∼ "BILL CUNNINGHAM NEW YORK" (2010)
DID YOU EVER WONDER WHAT BEING PASSIONATE LOOKS LIKE?
Have you been searching for that MOJO in your life's pathway? How does it feel and what does it look like to be passionate?
I’ve written a few posts on the FLOW, on being connected to that greater part of yourself, but how can you tell that someone is in PASSION MODE?
Just take a closer look at the well-acclaimed Photographer Bill Cunningham from THE NEW YORK TIMES and his work! I saw a documentary on Swedish TV about his life and work. The documentary portrayed a man over his 80s – still going about in NY with his bike and his camera.
BILL Cunningham’s PASSION for beauty is portrayed in every day life in NY and as he is riding his bike; he captures every little shift of influence from all and everyone. From RAGS to RICHES he manages to blend them all together to later on become a footprint in his GALLERY OF THE DAY.
Bill claims his mastery by being able to collect the influences, vaguely appearing to become the next major trend in fashion houses all over. But it is not about fashion – it is homage to BEAUTY – CREATIVITY – PASSION and SOUL.

Mind you – Bill is truly living for his PASSION – not compromising himself for sake of a picture! YOU CAN’T BUY BILL – he doesn’t accept free dinners and drinks, he won’t take money, since money, according to him will jeopardize his FREEDOM. Bill manages to develop his own signature BRAND by doing it his OWN style – dedicated-consistent-disciplined and with JOY. You see – Bill smiles through the whole documentary and only a few times will you see that he protect himself from questions that are too intimate.
Bill has lived his PASSION his whole life, dedicated to look through the lens of a NON-DIGITAL camera, to capture beauty, the way he sees it ∼ trashy or exclusive ∼ and his contribution to FASHION, COLORS, TREND and ARTISTIC EXPRESSION is priceless! His whole life’s work is well kept in the many document cabinets in his small apartment that for some would equal a closet.
I don’t know Bill but this documentary had me inspired by a soul that has taken his PASSION and made it the urge to wake up every morning to get a new glimpse into the world of beauty.
This documentary made me feel JOY and I had the greatest laughs at the beautiful and outrageous characters in it! To watch the guy working at FN in his ALPHABET suit, sofa suit, stripe suit and all the other DARING, LOVABLE, CRAZY, ARTISTIC CHARACTERS!
I must say, it reminds me of my grandmother; she didn’t care what someone else thought of her. She went out in her DARING RED beret styled with huge red earrings and flowers in her hair ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!
My recommendation to you is – watch the documentary if you are from Sweden it is on:
